Unemployment has declined to the lowest level in six months. Round 15 saw only 4% of respondents reporting to be unemployed. In comparison, unemployment peaked at 10% in October and has declined since January. However, women are more likely to be unemployed: overall, 8% of women vs. 5% of men are unemployed. In round 15, 5% of women vs. 2% of men surveyed were unemployed. Predictably, unemployed respondents are also significantly more likely to be extremely vulnerable.
Requests for new Loans are on the rise. When asked what support GEEP could provide, almost 1 in 2 respondents (46%) asked for a new business loan in Round 15. In comparison, less than 1 out of 5 respondents (19%) asked for a new loan in January. In round 15, new business loans are the most requested support, followed by cash handouts (42%). Interestingly, only 7% asked for an increase in their current loan size.
Regional variation in external support. South-East and South-West are more likely to have received any type of external support. Respondents in the North-Central and South-West are more likely to direct cash support (6% of all respondents in each case) In contrast, free food is most common for the South-East (20%) and South-West (18%) regions.
